Struts now (experimentally) supports using annotations for configurations.
We're using Stripes, which also uses annotations instead of XML files, but this makes me want to check out Struts 2.0.
Gladys and I have started running. I haven't really used an ipod when running before, so I've been trying to find music.
I bought one of the Nike + mixes on iTunes, but it wasn't all that. Then I saw PodRunner mentioned in a review thread on iTunes. I downloaded one of the podcasts, and was ready to listen when I went to the gym one morning. Normally, I run without music, and just look at the TV screens and try to read the closed captioning, or I just stare vacantly at the numbers on the treadmill. I've usually ran for about 3 miles in a little under 30 minutes.
However, with this podcast on my iPod I ran 5 miles without that much effort. It was almost eerie how much easier it became.
We've also signed up for the Kaiser 5K , and we'll be starting SuperBowl Sunday with a run. I think it'll be fun.
Yay running music!
Starwood Hotels is seeking a Chief Beer Officer. Maybe it's time to try something new?
"...all one needs is a love for beer, a thirst-hand knowledge of this
glorious libation, an interest in perks that are as tasty as beer itself..."
How do you eat your pizza: folded, flat or with a fork and knife?
Submitted by danimass.
I used to pretty much always eat it with a fork and knife. Nice and clean. Then I moved here, and now I just grab it with my hands and stuff my face.
Chicago-style pizza is an exception, of course. There's just no way to eat those thick slices without a knife and fork.
Amazon has click-to-call customer support, and it's quite nice.
I was looking at cellphones on Amazon last night, and I couldn't quite pick what I wanted. In desperation, I clicked on the help pages. I didn't expect to find anything useful, since my experience with Amazon support before has mostly consisted of automated off-target responses to very specific questions.
To my surprise, I noticed a "contact us by phone" button. It was around 10pm, so I was sure the call center was closed, but I clicked it anyway.
The next couple of pages had a box where I could enter my phone number, and pick when Amazon would call me. Interesting. I entered my phone number, not really expecting much to happen.
Within two seconds, my cell phone was ringing. I picked up, and an automated message told me I was being connected. Withing a few seconds I was talking to a real person who knew what she was talking about. Yes!
I didn't have to "please call back between the hours of 6am and 7am Eastern time", or be abused by a rude person who didn't care.
Now, if only T-Mobile would follow suit.

Also, apparently republicans are having more children than democrats. Hm...
I finally got time to set up CruiseControl at work, so now we have automated builds. The X10 kit I bought worked without any problems, and the latest version of CruiseControl even comes with the X10 plugin included.
I didn't buy lava lamps yet, but I connected it to a regular desk lamp and a lamp with a black light.
When I first told a few people that the lamps were connected to the automated build, a couple of them thought I was joking.
"You're kidding, right?"
It's not lava lamps, and it's not an Orb, but there is still a collective "ooooh!!" when the build breaks and the light goes on.
Cool.
